@flowkey: Nearly 200 years after Chopin wrote this Étude, it still sounds as breathtaking as it looks. In Chopin’s time, études were mostly technical studies, written to help pianists build skills like finger agility, scales, and arpeggios. Chopin helped change that, turning the étude from a practice exercise into something truly concert-worthy. Later composers like Franz Liszt and Cécile Chaminade would continue pushing the form even further. In this Étude in C major, Op. 10 No. 1, Chopin transforms sweeping arpeggios into something mesmerising. Nearly 200 years after its publication, it still stands as a serious challenge for pianists.
