@alluringarctic: 🇬🇧 CROSSING SHIPPING LANED 🇫🇮 LAIVAVÄYLIEN YLITYS 🇫🇮 Matkalla merijäätä pitkin pohjoiseen yksi pahimmista esteistä on laivaväylät. Monet satamat ovat saarilla tai niemenkärjissä, joten niiden ohittaminen mantereen kautta on pienen ähinän säestyksellä ollut mahdollista. Satamat on aina aidattuja eikä alueiden läpi saa kulkea. Raahen satama- & tehdasalue on valtava, eikä kaduilla ole enää lunta, joten hiihtäminen ja ahkion raahaaminen alueen ohi oli mahdotonta. Oli siis aika toteuttaa yksi suunnitelma, johon olin varautunut jo matkan alkaessa, eli laivaväylän läpi uiminen. Aiemmilla laivaväylillä olen arastellut tätä, koska väylät ovat täynnä irtonaisia jääkimpaleita, ja pelkäsin että ahkio jäisi niihin jumiin. Raahen väylältä löytyi kuitenkin jäänmurtajan ja rahtilaivojen "ohituspaikan" vierestä paikka, jossa oli pelkästään avovettä. Eikun siis kuivapuku päälle ja veteen! 🇬🇧 One of the worst obstacles when traveling north over sea ice are the shipping lanes. Many ports sit at the tips of peninsulas, so in several places it has been possible (with extra effort) to go around them via the mainland. Ports are always fenced off and you are not allowed to pass through those areas. The port and industrial area of Raahe is huge, and the streets are already bare of snow, so skiing and dragging the pulk past it on land was impossible. It was time to carry out a plan I had prepared for already at the start of the trip: swimming across the shipping lane. At earlier lanes I had hesitated to do this because they were full of loose ice chunks, and I was worried the pulk would get stuck in them. But at the Raahe lane I found a spot next to the icebreaker and cargo ship passing area where there was nothing but open water. So drysuit on, and into the water!
