I love my blanket ladder 😩 it’s the only thing I have from your ick list, so I’m keeping it. My cats always take over the baskets so I can’t have that filled with blankets

100% agree on all of this! I will admit though I have a blanket ladder.. BUT it was handmade by my nephew with the steps made out of thick tree limbs. I hang my husband’s late nonnas vintage scarves on them 🥰

The theme I’m catching here is “timeless”. When designing my home my mom (a designer) always told me “Timeless homes aren’t designed to follow trends, they’re designed to outlive them.” If you’d still love it in 10 years, it’s timeless.

We are empty nesters moving from a traditional suburban home to an urban downtown apartment. We are excited to lean into our more edgy style. As a designer, I concur with the Hobby Lobby take(and your other takes). I had a client once that hired me for a 2 hr color consult and with any remaining time we would use it to style her walls and shelves with her existing art and decor pieces. She was recently divorced and had moved to a home that was quite a bit smaller than her previous house. She assured me she had some really great pieces and that I didn’t need to bring any art/decor with me since she had an abundance of it. I swear everything she had was from HL, Home Goods or similar type stores. Don’t get me wrong, those stores can be good in a pinch when I need a few more accessories or inexpensive throw pillows/blankets when there isn’t room in the budget for “to the trade” options. However, it’s hard to accessorize a whole house in only the kinds of art and decor pieces sold at those stores. They tend to have a certain look/quality about them that just reads I got this at a big box store and that it isn’t a collection of items that are personal/meaningful to me.
