that sure don't sound like the 5.3 in my 2000 Silverado... this truck has got nearly 350K miles on it and it STILL starts and runs just as good as it did 25 years ago and it doesn't use nor leak a drop of anything

I've done HUNDREDS of these. The #1 thing you must do is get away from the Delphi lifters all together. most delete lifters and Delphi and they are equally problematic as the AFM lifters. Getting a Johnson 2110r lifter is the only way to have long term reliability

My 2011 5.3L lifter failed around 60k miles. DOD delete, new cam and lifters. Still running better than new. 370,000 miles.
