@birdsandbeaksnation: This is Phoenix, my Timneh African Grey. Before anyone asks, no, he’s not a “red factor.” Those feathers didn’t come from genetics. They came from healing. When I first met him back in 2018, he was gray, but more than that, he was struggling. He came from a home where there were a lot of medical challenges happening, and while he hadn’t been there as long as the others, it had clearly taken a toll on him. At one point, I considered keeping him. Instead, he went to a woman who had applied and who felt like exactly the right fit for him, and she proved that in every possible way. In just a few months, she helped him grow back in from a plucked, fragile Grey into the bird you’re seeing now. Fully feathered, healthy, and safe, with these beautiful coral tones coming through his feathers. Not because he’s a special mutation, but because his needs were finally being met. Because he felt secure. Because he was understood. Usually when you see African grays with different colors on them, those are earned through trauma. They grow back in different colors because of trauma. That’s what you’re seeing here. Recently, she’s been in the hospital for a few weeks, and per our contract, she reached out for him to come back to me. So Phoenix is here now, with me, as part of my personal flock, and he’s going to serve as an ambassador for the rescue. His story matters. He’s a living example of what can happen when a bird’s physical and emotional needs are met consistently and compassionately. This is what healing can look like. This is Phoenix. My second Phoenix, because apparently that’s a theme now. My other one is a greenwing who is fully committed to Ruby and completely unbothered by this naming situation. But this one earned his name. ❤️ #parrotrescue #birdrescue
