I have said this countless time What rent control is doing is good but the commissioner approach is not the best. His approach is like attack. They should have got all landlords get them registered explain the law to them.

I went to rent control office yesterday. 2 forms (one for tenant, one for landlord) cost Ghc 15 cedis. No receipts. Mr Ag Commissioner provide receipts for your offices

As a matter of fact, you cannot regulate rent prices on your own. It is the responsibility of the government to put proper measures in place to ensure that tenants can live with peace of mind. If you still don’t understand, try buying a car and then tell the government that because you own the car, you will single-handedly decide the transport fares and overcharge passengers — let’s see what will happen. The same principle should apply to landlords. They should not have the absolute power to fix rent prices. There must be government regulation to protect tenants and maintain fairness.

So what if the tenant really likes to continue staying in my accommodation, and decides to pay a multiple of 6 months? Assuming the rent is 1,000 for 6 months, and the 6 months runs from 1st January to 1st June. But for the convenience of both landlord and tenant, the tenant decides to pay for another 6 months which will run from 1st July through 1st January? Wouldn't that be fair and legal?

I think there should be at least, a rent control office in all our municipal offices. So landlords and landladies in each and every municipal can have an easy access to make relationship between the rent control, Tenants, and property owners more flexible.

Some landlords and landladies are not even using smart phones even to have access to social media to be hearing about all these rent issues. I have lived in my constituency for over 30 years but I have not seen 👀 even a single rent control department office which I can point. Ghana 🇬🇭 leaders knows how to impose foreign laws on Ghanaians but always fails to impose good foreign policies on Ghanaians. A wonder that the same Ghana government facing housing deficit is the same government Tey to attack landlords and landladies from such poor approach. Ghana 🇬🇭, we have a long way to go.
