This might be by far one of the hardest things i’ve ever had to do. To say goodbye to not one grandparent, but two. But I suppose there’s something so beautiful in that. Imagine not being able to physically live without the other. A love story that’s hard to find in today’s modern world. 52 years married. 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren. It’s said that moment Grandad saw Nan he told her “i’ll marry you one day!” And he did. Very quickly after Nan got pregnant with Mom, Allison. And Nan was very forthright that this was not a pregnancy that was conceived before the wedding! The last time I saw Nan she was still addressing the rumours! 😹 They took care of each other. Leaned on each other. Was each other’s best friend. They never left the country and was quite content in their little flat in Wednesbury. They didn’t have a lot, but they was happy. They had love. The greatest gift of all. And maybe we can all learn to find joy in simplicity. Maybe that’s how we carry on their legacy. They showed us what choosing someone, and staying by their side, no matter what, actually looks like in action. They chose to love each other every day. I think what hurts the most, is I never got to say goodbye to Grandad. An unexpected death. He’d took such good care of Nan and left us suddenly. I’m grateful for the little time I had with Nan before she passed but I really wish we’d of all had more time together. I’m lucky to have got witness such an unconditional love between them, as I have my mom and dad, and for that i’m thankful, as I know it exists. Till death do us part they said, and they wasn’t kidding! I’m so blessed to have spent so much time with them as a kid but I just wish I could tell Grandad how much I love him. But now i’ve gained a little cat. Their babbey. Who I believe God sent me to get me through this difficult time. She’s definitely started to warm to me. And I have a little piece of them with me. Nan and Grandad, thank you for an amazing childhood and for the love you brought to this Earth. I can’t wait to see you again 🙏 Psalm 34 says “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”
