San Joaquin Delta College has issued an alert confirming reports of ICE agents in the area surrounding its main campus in Stockton, prompting concern and frustration among students, parents and community members. According to an email sent Monday, November 2, at approximately 12:26 p.m., college officials acknowledged reports of federal immigration agents near the campus. The college emphasized that ICE agents were not conducting immigration enforcement operations on campus at the time of the alert. The message also instructed employees on how to respond if immigration officers approach them on campus, including requesting identification and following state laws and district policies protecting student and employee information. Meanwhile, The Stockton Chronicle has received messages from angry and concerned parents and students questioning why immigration agents would maintain a presence near an educational institution. Some community members have described the reported activity as intimidating, expressing concern about the fear it creates for students and families simply trying to attend classes and continue their education. The concerns come amid several days of reported immigration enforcement encounters throughout Stockton and San Joaquin County, including vehicle stops, detentions and sightings near residential neighborhoods and public facilities. With Election Day just one day away, the timing and locations of these operations have intensified concerns among some residents about intimidation and the impact on immigrant communities. However, the purpose of the agents’ reported presence near Delta College has not been established, and there is no confirmed evidence that the activity was intended to intimidate students or influence the election. The college’s alert did not report any students or employees being detained. As parents and students continue demanding answers, questions remain about why federal immigration agents were operating near the college and whether additional activity is expected. The Stockton Chronicle will continue gathering firsthand accounts and monitoring developments.
