@areyouevengreek: March 17, 1821 Mani, Greece 🇬🇷⚔️ There’s an old saying: «Το κρατάει Μανιάτικο» which means a Maniot never forgets. ⚔️ A phrase rooted in generations of vendetta, honor, and survival… where every injustice was remembered, and every family defended what was theirs. ⚔️ This is exactly why Mani led the revolution. For centuries, the Maniots were never conquered by the Ottoman Empire. ⚔️ Their stone tower houses were built for defense. Their rugged land made them untouchable. And their people were known for their fierce, fiery spirit. ⚔️ On March 17, 1821, in Areopolis, Petros Mavromichalis raised the flag of revolution. Not in secret. Not in fear ⚔️ But openly… against an empire. Within days, 2,000 Maniots marched and on March 23, they liberated Kalamata, igniting the uprising that would spread across all of Greece. ⚔️ The Filiki Eteria knew exactly what they were doing when they turned to Mani first… ⚔️ Because if anyone would start the revolution, it was them. On their flag, they carried a vow: Νίκη ή Θάνατος — Victory or Death Ή ταν ή επί τας — Return with your shield, or on it. 👉 This was just the beginning… want Part 2? #greekrevolution #1821 #GreekHistory #greekindependence #greece
