The high C isn’t in the score but it’s traditionally interpolated. In 1978, Riccardo Muti conducted an “authentic” version without it. The poor tenor was Carlo Cossuta who received a chorus of boos after “Di quella pira” along with colorful insults like “frocio”. 😂

Fun fact: Verdi did not, in fact, write anything above a B for tenor, because even then and it's the same today, not all tenors can sing the C, and if that is your only reason for the choice of the tenor, than you're not doing it right.
