this song is for the ones who gave too much understanding to someone who couldn’t give them what they needed. it’s called DREAM LIFE by PRSH+LOVE There’s a really sad dynamic that can happen when one person struggles to express love and the other person becomes so understanding of that struggle that they slowly stop expecting anything from them. She tells herself, He cares, he just doesn’t know how to show it. He doesn’t communicate much, but she understands. He rarely initiates affection, but she understands. If vulnerability scares them, they can gradually practice letting somebody in. “This is difficult for me” can explain why something takes more effort; it shouldn’t automatically mean “therefore you should expect nothing from me.” And that’s where this dynamic becomes heartbreaking, because sometimes the girl thinks tolerating the bare minimum proves how deeply she loves him. She wants him to know she isn’t demanding, impatient, or incapable of understanding his wounds. Meanwhile, he may become accustomed to a relationship where he doesn’t actually have to grow because she continually adapts around everything he isn’t giving. Eventually she becomes exhausted, and he may genuinely be confused because she spent so long making it seem like everything was enough. Understanding somebody’s limitations doesn’t mean pretending you don’t have needs. You can have compassion for why someone struggles and still require effort from them. Maybe that’s what mature love actually looks like: I understand why this is hard for you, but I also need to see that loving me matters enough for you to try.
