I think a lot of us don’t know what emotional intimacy is or looks like. So we struggle to wrap our heads around the idea of it. I was a little confused by your first video so I sent it to my gf to get her perspective on it and she named a bunch of things we do together that we connect emotionally on but i really wasn’t even aware of it or thought of it in that way. That’s just kind of how we are together. It’s one of those things that for us we don’t notice it’s lacking or really take the time to appreciate it until we don’t have it or can see a good example of it.

I just want to clarify what emotional intimacy means to people. it means being able to share feelings and thoughts with someone and not fear retribution. it means seeing your partner's pain and responding it it, and your partner trusting you will respond and vice versa. It means knowing they'll be there for you if your mad or crying or ecstatic. Emotional intimacy is forming a connection built on trust. I always tell people that trust is built in the time between conflict and resolution and what happens there

I had 3 relationships in a row end with then telling me I lack emotional intelligence. I bought the books, I sought therapy, and I still had a couple failed relationships. but I knew what the problem was and I kept working at it. now im over 2 years in a happy relationship living with my partner.

okay i’m so glad i found this video & your page bc i’m gearing up to have this approximate conversation w my partner. im expecting things to go well bc we’re both super communicative & open with eachother. i love him to bits, and i think we have emotional intimacy with eachother, but i have been trying to figure out what to call the thing that i want to address with him… and it IS emotional intimacy! (in some ways) this is going to be so oddly helpful in my journaling prepping for my convo w him.

i am aware enough to know i have the problem and what it is, but not emotionally confident to where i can open up about what i believe the problems are so other people can also give their perspective. i also have a massive problem of being attracted to the type of people who i dont feel safe opening up to (i cant really open up to anyone but for some reason i have a pattern of catching feelings for judgemental people, with who i definitely dont feel safe enough to be vulnerable), and that keeps me from moving past where i stand. i have been in therapy for months and am only really starting to open up a little bit to my therapist now...
