This makes me question if I’ve ever actually loved the people I feel like I’ve loved (romantically) or if it’s just been limerence the whole time

Not me doing this with every romantic relationship I’ve had and having no word for it. Thank you for surfacing this, Jeff!

this was me for 40 years. I learned about limerance a few years ago and recognized it in myself, and now I have a mental roadblock against it so strong, I have completely lost any wish for a romantic relationship 😂 I cannot be bothered, and I haven't daydreamed about or even hoped for anyone in 2 years. it's like I just woke up one day and now I see so clearly.

I used to be a chronic limerancer. Now, when I start dating someone I can't tell if I really like them because my nervous system is calm. Glad I'm not in limerance anymore but now I don't know if I like anyone. 😂

My entire life until about five years ago, explained. I wish I had known this term 30 years ago.

I had this happen when someone showed me affection, presence, and interest. They randomly ghosted me, but we stayed connected with social media I was stuck in Limerence until I reflected and asked myself why I was so interested in someone who wanted nothing to do with me.

I've experienced limmerance since I was a kid. Crushes on boys that didn't know I existed. It happened after breakups when I got older. It was present in long term relationships where I couldn't stop thinking about someone else. It is a hostage situation. I'm very aware when it happens now. It is very much an escape from a painful reality~escaping into a fantasy.

but I am still obsessed with my husband and it's been 10 years. but I grew up with exactly what you described. before Zoloft if he didn't give me attention or was distant sometimes or just wanted time for himself I would find attention somewhere else. I don't do that now since February since taking Zoloft. but I hear you're in Portland, if we are interested in a session how do we get started?

That third point is KEY. Look at the empty spots in your life. Such hard work but it helps.

Someone said they thought Taylor Swift was a classic example of limerance and I’ve always wondered.
