In the UK everyone studies shakespeare, it's part of the curriculum here.

‘Even study Shakespeare’. Wow. My primary school studied and put on a Shakespeare play tailored to 10 years olds every year.

we learn shakespeare from as young as yr 3 being shown some basic simplications, but also the light heartedness of something like a midsummer night's dream

which is why i cant shake off the feeling that it is always tom cruise in whatever movie he is in. not the character but tom cruise as this, tom cruise as that

the opposite is why I find US TV hard to watch (that at formulaic writing)

And, that's the reason why I prefer the UK system of having talent to become the character for people to watch. Instead of a model that can still look good even though she's supposed to play someone in advance.

It’s crazy in the US. Even in the medical dramas, patient could be dragged out of a car wreck and still have perfect clothes, hair, make up and blowout

Guys when he says study Shakespeare he's not talking about learning it at school 🤦♀️He's talking about learning to perform it properly, think Royal Shakespeare Company not GCSE English

Maybe British actors see the roles as just acting, not part of brand image. Like Leonardo DiCaprio was considering the lead in American Psycho but was talked out of it by Gloria Steinem. On a different point, Timothy Spall is a great actor but I wonder whether, with his looks, he'd have got anywhere in the US.

The only qualm I have with this video is the inclusion of the US office, I feel like that's one of the rare occasions where an American ensemble cast doesn't look like a modeling troupe

A lot of stuff from the USA has that issue of being overly synthetic. I remember seeing something offhand once talking about the Ugliness of Beauty and the Beauty of Ugliness, how that very synthetic style looks rather unappealing compared to how conventionally unappealing things look strangely beautiful.

Eh, looks like "neighbour next door" but most of the time you see the same "neighbour" in every decent movie/series. It appears to be that they use similar patterns to Hollywood, hire someone who is known and sells well.
