@meghannmcuniff: Afroman's lawyer David Osborne told jurors in his closing argument this morning that the defamation claims against him by sheriff's deputies in Adams County, Ohio, is about "commentary on society." "This case was about freedom of speech, but let's talk about what it's also about. It's also about music. Not all music is tasteful. Not everybody likes all music. There's some songs I hate. I think we can find plenty of people that find songs they do not like," Osborne said. "But Mr. Foreman — Joe — is a rapper and comedian. It's what he's done his whole life, is rap, make songs. We got to think of what rap is, because music does not exist in a vacuum. Music evolves over time. Take a look at jazz. It's evolved at one time. It was distinct in a certain subculture, and it has now expanded. Rap is the same. Rap started out as a means for people to express social commentary opinions through entertainment. Look at the song by NWA. What do they call it, 'fuck the police?' I think I said that right." Afroman, legal name Joseph Edgar Foreman, was never charged with a crime after deputies seized cash and marijuana from his property. He got his money back, but it was $4,000 instead of the $4,400 listed in the search warrant's ledger. An investigator says the deputy who counted the money miscounted and added an extra $390 that didn't exist. He couldn't account for the other missing $10. Afroman has repeatedly called the deputies involved in the search thieves, and he's called one a pedophile and said he slept with another's wife. You can watch plaintiffs' attorney Robert Klinger request $3.9 million in damages here @Meghann Cuniff. #law #attorney #rap
