@kesler_science: Two sponges will make air density in the atmosphere click in your classes. Stack two different colored sponges. Bottom one is the troposphere. Top one is the stratosphere. Set them in water and wait two minutes. Now squeeze out each sponge into a graduated cylinder. The bottom sponge holds way more. In this model, the water represents air molecules. More water, more density. That's exactly how the atmosphere works. The closer to Earth, the more packed the air molecules are. Then students graph real temperature data and map out all four layers. A hands-on model AND a data graph in one class period. Atmosphere Inquiry Lab.
