I once got pulled over in a stolen van. I hadn't stolen it, I'd purchased it in good faith off of eBay for £1850. The seller had a logbook, loads of paperwork, old MOT certs etc, it all seemed legit until I was stopped at a random roadside breathalyser checkpoint a few days before Christmas 13 years ago. The police did their standard checks and the VIN numbers didn't all match up, they checked it on their system and it turned out that it'd been stolen in Scotland 2 months prior to me buying it. It was confiscated and returned to the insurance company as they'd paid out on the claim. I was out £1850, gutted. The seller had met me outside a random house whose address was on the logbook, I never even questioned anything about not going in the house and doing the transaction on the street.
