It’s partially true but can also be used as an excuse to not invest in relationships or go the extra mile for someone just to be nice. It’s a very “me” centered concept to use when convenient.

I must be weird. I’ve (gladly) had the same neighbors and co-workers for decades. Most are involved in my family life — if not day-to-day, then at least for regular gatherings. If I’ve met you, I’m hoping we’ll be calling on one another for a lifetime.

I have co workers I worked with for 2 years. Left that job 8 years ago. Still talk to them monthly if not a few times a week. We live 2 hours and 10 hours apart. This post isn't true for everyone.

Oh, so this is a universal experience? Because I seem to be surrounded by people who have friends/family that they’ve been in orbit with for decades. And I’ve been thinking there was just something fundamentally wrong with me that I don’t have that.

This is weird. I have the same best friend since 3rd grade. Same friends at work for the last 8 yrs, still friends with people i worked at my last job for 10 years. Still friends with my old neighbors and we moved 3 years ago. Relationships of any kind take effort especially as adults who have busy lives.
