Obsession with science is crazy lol it was sooo simplified in the movie! I wish some scenes were there like Antarctica etc but the parts that were simplified were earned

don’t think they properly set the stakes for Grace going to save Rocky either. He did that assuming he was going to run out of food and die because he knows he can’t eat Erid food, but Rocky was still worth the sacrifice to him. Movie never even mentions how unsafe Erid would be for him

HARD disagree! I thought this felt less like a science fiction movie than most. No disrespect to you as a human, but the science was very clear and simple to follow. Of course it was a main plot point; it’s kinda the entire premise of the conflict!

Im 100% convinced that Sandra Huller listened to the audiobook and said “You know what, I’m just going to use the exact same personality that Ray Porter used for the character and absolutely nail this performance” and she nailed the hell out of it

I loved it! Great adaptation, but in a perfect world, I would’ve loved like maybe 20 more minutes of earth scenes. They were some of my favorite parts of the book

there was hardly any science in it... they didnt go through probably a good 80% of the science that was in the book. It's a hard sci fi story, the point is science.

I disagree that they got the relationship perfectly. I liked the movie but Rocky felt more like a sidekick than an equal or even the mentor like he did in the book

I mean… I think it is up there with the greats. It is the sci-fi movie of this decade. We’re all afraid to say it because its new but it’s going to stay with people for a long time. It’s different - it’s more lighthearted - but it competes with Interstellar and Arrival (which Arrival is my favorite movie of all time)z

They trimmed so much science. The amount they used felt appropriate. Honestly, I disliked "The Martian" movie bc it cut so much science which is the appeal of the book. But PHM is a character story at its heart and I'm glad Goddard understood that.
