@drsermedmezher: You Fainted? This Might Be Why. Sources- PMID 25538626 yas_c137. on TT Fainting, medically known as syncope, can happen when there is a temporary drop in blood flow to the brain. There are actually several different reasons this can occur. For instance, a sudden drop in blood pressure when you stand up quickly is known as orthostatic hypotension. In other cases, underlying cardiac issues like arrhythmias can disrupt blood flow, and certain neurological conditions or severe dehydration can also play a role. However, when someone faints, by far the most likely culprit is a physiological reaction called vasovagal syncope. While it can be frightening to experience or witness, the act of fainting is actually a built in survival mechanism. By falling horizontally to the floor, you immediately remove the gravitational hurdle. This allows the pooled blood to easily flow back from your legs to your heart and brain, which is why most people quickly regain consciousness once they are lying flat. #vasovagal #faint #unconscious
