Is what it is. Shops aren’t a charity. Feel free to order your own parts, buy all the necessary tools, and do the work yourselves. I just wish shops would take it a little easier on parts mark ups. Why charge me $500 for brakes and rotors I can have shipped to me for $250? Labor is where the money should be made.

I used to work for Oreillys and most shops do use the list price to charge customers but not retail price that they paid for the parts not saying that’s what you guys do I’m just stating

People need to stop hating. You've got to be able to make a profit and actually stay in business. Of course somebody can do it cheaper in their backyard but for people that need a mechanic to do it you're going to pay for it

Not my job. As a Accountant for a furniture company for 30 years. Cost Accountants would ask? You could buy a sofa with or without leather or fabric. Honestly sometimes you have to refuse unreasonable customers?

as a mobile mechanic I never slingshot a price out there because every job is different. Definitely a lot of options on parts. To understand sales like this people have to have some experience or knowledge in the field before accusing the business of "ripping off". Advice given from uncle or daddy or friend isn't enough, gotta do the research before making a judgement for sure. 😉

So true… I have a GS 350 F port as well and the dealership wants over $1000 just for two rotors and front pads that’s just to buy the parts not including installation

The people that complain about the price are the same people that never step foot in shops anyways. Thats why I ignore them. My clients come to me for my value not because I’m the cheapest guy. I don’t want to be the cheapest. They don’t want me to be the cheapest. They want the good warranty they want the service they want the courtesy loaner vehicle, they want the trust. All those things come at a cost.
