@gettheblow_air: HVAC Service Call - What’s your diagnosis? Our superheat is so high with no subcooling and a dirty evaporator I’m pretty sure we could have 2 issues on this unit! #hvac #fyp #bluecollar #diagnosis #hvactechnician
Looks like Both, from what I’ve seen low airflow will show as low superheat

King heating and cooling :
What we teach our techs is to never diagnose without the proper air flow. Meaning using static pressures to calculate cfm and more than than likely catch the high static pressures across the coil. Saves a lot of diagnostic time. That being said it’s definitely low as well due to low air flow resulting in high pressures. Would advise the customer with how low and how filthy the coil is along with it being a R22 unit, it may be more cost effective to replace rather then repair after cost of labor and refrigerant.

HeyHVACAsh :
My tech says: No air flow would cause low pressure.
The suction line was 54 degrees
It most likely has refrigerant in it.
But until you fix the air flow you can’t really determine accurate pressures

I mean definitely an airflow issue, how ever it is low, low super heat low sub cooling=air flow problem, high super heat, low sub cooling= charge issues

It’s both, your subcool tells you why.

airflow before charge. clean the coil and then recheck. change filter too.

Clean your coils and reverify. That easy

100% both once you clean that coil pressures will be even lower

Yes air flow should always be verified before charge adjustment so I would need to know the static on system after coil cleaned and sub cooling as well 👍

Airflow first then see what happens

Both. but mostly low on gas. but still need to clean that coil.

Both. If it were just low airflow, your subcooling would be closer to 10°

have to clean that coil first then check pressures again. yes a dirty evap coil can cause low pressures and act like the system is undercharged

Outdoor temp is 82F and the liquid line is only 164psi. That alone tells me a leak. Regardless of air flow. Vapour line at 46 psi.
if it was air flow you would still get 100psi +/- on the vapour.
Even with a dead blower motor, your pressures would be higher.
chances are your replacing the coil ( leak )

clean your coils and go from there

Coil is deff dirty but not dirty enough to cause those pressures, low on charge.

Clean it inside and out first. Then check Subcooling to make adjustments to pressure

low pressure. If it was air flow your superheat would be very low . Evap is being starved
