I can totally see why want it gone! I can also see why they wanted different spaces. I also sometimes prefer different spaces over an open plan and it makes sense that they put tiles in the entrance area to keep it clean and visually separate it more

We have several spaces like that in our house. For instance, we have a pool room - as in a room to come and go from the pool. Except we don’t have a pool. Or a backyard. And our house backs up to a creek, not a pool.
