I might be too late but I use my MacBook Pro m5 48gb memory 2T storage 16” for software engineering. Idk how hard video editing is but in my use case I never ever even get close to using the full memory and etc . I mean if you have the money and want to future proof go for more ? . The max chip with 128gb looks reallll nice but I’d personally never use the full potential in my career atm unless I’m trying to power AI off it 🤣

Yeah 16 should be fine for that, but if you need the extra headroom, Apple also offers the m5 pro MacBook Pro for an extra 200$ that has 24 gigs, and if you wanna game, the 24 should help you out there (IDEAL CHOICE), but what YOUR problem sounds like is a budget problem, which relatablely, is mine too at the moment because of the ram crisis, I’d suggest buying an older MacBook Pro like the M2 Pro, M1 Pro, M3 Pro with hella storage because storage matters more than ram if you’re editing videos, sure you need ram to run it properly but what would you do with no extra storage? So buy an older MacBook Pro with like 2TB of ram (BUDGET CHOICE) OR ORRRRR, just buy like a external SSD and buy the M5 MacBook Pro (BEST CHOICE) (make sure it’s drive speeds are fast) and you’re gucci, hope this helped ❤️

It’s because 4K is heavy and it will use at least 12 to 14 gigs of RAM and if you start using effects it could possibly use all of it

Bro if you can, get the 128gb!! No one is going to be editing in like the next 2 years without a localized edge LLM running multiple agents parallel deploying workflows and trust your 16 gb won't be able to handle those elite workflows. Plus in the future Ram is going to be extremely expensive!

beo trust me coming from an editor working w 8-figure subscriber counts in entertainment niche. if you want a macbook that lasts like 4-6y+ get the 48gigs ram its worth it
