I work with people like this, if its slightly chilly, so they put the thermostat to 30, thinking it's going to make it hotter quicker

my wife does the same. If she's cold she'll turn it up to volcano heat, if shes hot, she'll turn it down to iceberg temp. Same in the car, does't understand 19 degrees auto will just keep it at a comfortable temp, but isn't instant heat when the engine is cold, so cranks it up to 30!

My thermostat is magic. I’ll set the heating at 20 and I’ll walk past later when the house is boiling and it’s been set to 22. God only knows how that happens

I'm confused, what's so complicated about a thermostat? when the room temperature drops below the set temperature on the thermostat the heating will come on to bring the room temperature back to the set temperature. turning it down to 3 degrees won't cool the room. just means the heating wouldn't turn on until the room goes below 3
