not sure people remember Pedro correctly. in 1999 he had an ERA of 2.07 while striking out 317. in 2000 his ERA was under 1.74, next closest was 3.74 and league average was 4.9. HE WAS DOMINANT IN THE HEIGHT OF THE PED ERA

Keep in mind, Eric Davis faced prime Greg Maddux in 56 PA vs. 16 PA against a young Pedro Martinez. He didn't have success against either of them, but it makes sense that he would remember Maddux as being better.

Pedro was one of the best pitchers ever for a 5-year span. Maddux was one of the best pitchers ever for a career. Pedro’s peak was higher, but Maddux was better for the career.
