@boldvoice.gina: Now it’s not just a tongue problem… it’s a throat problem 🫠 #englishpronunciation #americanaccent #englishaccent #pronunciation #englishlearners
as someone from the USA Midwest we barely pronounce any T's if I'm being honest.

Emphasizing the "glottal stop", makes it sound more intense than it really is. We just save our breath at the end of words.

An easy way to practice the glottal stop is with the name Martin, most Americans don’t pronounce that t, unlike when the same name is said in Spanish

this is wrong, rather the T is said softer. rather than the rough "tch" its more of a "tuh" with the ch and uh being the air thats released

i just spent a minute figuring this out bc i do pronounce "cant" like "can", but then how do you tell the difference between cant and can? Someone in here used "what do you mean you can't go?" as an example- if i say "what do you mean you CAN go?", the "can" sounds more like "ken" and "can't" sounds like "can"

You just *don't* push air past your teeth and tongue. Put your tongue in the "T" place but don't push air past it. Just let it sit there for a fraction of a second.

Glottal stop sounds intense but it’s really just how you make sounds like “uh oh” the feeling in your throat before “uh” and “oh” is a glottal stop and you can do that super lightly to get the same stop used for final t’s

Try saying “kitten” but do not say the “t’s” so it is “ki-en” with the “ki” and “en” pronounced the same with the same inflection, but no “t’s”.

there's nothing glottal about softening the T. The first way it's pronounced, it's a voiceless stop. The second way would be like treating it like the tongue stops all sound as though it's a wall.

if a T wants to be pronounced it's going to be the first letter of the word, otherwise it's just shy and there for decoration

your "what" was really good! try approaching the word as if you are going to annunciate the t and then just dont move your tongue to do it. the lack of tongue movement will get the sound you're trying to achieve

As a born PNWer, it’s more like, instead of fully going through with the “can’T” it’s like you push it through your nose instead? Idk how that comes off 😂😂 but it’s like “can’’hn’” like a hard stop but the rest of your “t” effort comes through your nose
