They do chew on anything and everything. I have found it doesn't take a lot of fencing to keep them out. I have taken to throwing some stakes in the ground with a 16" fence to keep them away from the porch and sidewalks. And I ended up fencing the entire garden, because between the ducks and the geese, they would eat anything and everything.
I have a few well behaved ducks that I let into the garden on occasion to control the pests. And I let the mum ducks raise their ducklings in there when they have them.
