As a mom and former 3rd grade teacher in Oklahoma public schools, early literacy is something that has always been close to my heart. By 3rd grade, students shift from learning to read to reading to learn but 73% of Oklahoma 3rd graders aren’t reading at grade level. At home, simple things can make a big difference — reading together daily, sounding out words, asking questions about the story, and helping kids build a love for books.
