SRV did not open for David Bowie. SRV played lead on some of David Bowie's album Let's Dance. Bowie wanted him to tour on Bowie's Serious Moonlight tour. Bowie would not let his band Double Trouble play on his tour and he wanted to focus on his own career. It had nothing to do with playing pop or wearing costumes. SRV was also the ONLY act to perform at the Montreux Jazz Festival without a record deal in 1982.

Actually He played on Bowies album Lets Dance. Bowie went and recruited him. But he didn't play on the Serious Moonlight Tour to support that album. Earl Slick and Carlos Alomar ( longtime Bowie guitarists) played on that tour. SRV did not. I love your videos btw!!!

He played on Bowles albums. He was his guitarist on the Let’s dance tour and then his album took off. Bowie replaced him with Earl Slick

Dorton Arena in Raleigh, NC 1983 Had to beg my friends to go. The place was empty. Crowd was on the floor and no one in the stands. So.... that means I was front row. Elbows on the stage. Never will forget it as long as I live.
