Didn’t the elders already know that the Gum-Gum fruit was the Nika fruit? Wasn’t this explained before Saturn went to Egghead? I’ve only watched the anime but I’m pretty sure they said something along the Lines of «the gum-gum fruit also goes by another name; the Human-Human fruit: Model Nika»?
