I really thought Sammi was gonna put the guitar down, and the flash forward to him as a successful musician shocked me genuinely until this analysis. I understand now that it’s Ryan Coogler following through on the idea of not leaning on religion. Sammi understood that surviving that night was not like a trade with god to give up his talent in music but a sign that he would find his own salvation in continuing with what he loved and was good at.

Anytime I hear commentary on this movie it makes me want to back and watch it with this new thought in mind. There is so much depth and history in the story that makes it so important to our culture and our history. Which is why I truly believe it’s on of the best.
