@chasseurdesons: The sound of a beaver chewing a tree 🦫 While walking, I came across an area with clear signs of beaver activity: gnawed tree trunks, wood chips scattered on the ground, and even some trees that had already fallen. I kept coming back to this spot over about a month to observe what was happening. Over time, I started to better understand the beaver’s behavior in this area. Its work happens gradually, over several nights. Some trees had already been partially cut, which made me think it would come back to finish them, but that wasn’t always the case. I left recorders in place to listen to the beaver’s nocturnal activity: it was mostly active late at night, usually between midnight and 4 a.m. It took several days to find the right spot for the contact microphone. Sometimes the beaver would be active further away, out of range. Then one night, it came back right where I had placed the mic, and that’s when I was able to record the sound you’re hearing. 🔊 To capture more detail in the sound, I combined a contact microphone with ambient audio. 🔬 Beavers chew on trees for several reasons. They feed on the bark and young branches, use the wood to build dams or lodges, and it also helps keep their teeth from overgrowing. #nature #tree #sound #pourtoi #fyp
