I posted a video on teaching them not to be weird and this is the other part of it. Kids have to actually be taught the skills of empathy, love, and acceptance. Not acceptance of just any behavior, but understanding differences. We also MUST educate them about various exceptionalities, like autism, so that they can show greater love towards others. You’re so right and this is so important! I’m an oddball (creative + defiant + adhd) but my parents taught me how to balance my uniqueness with “normal” - it’s allowed me to thrive and now as an adult, my quirks are seen as cool and interesting and not off putting, and I have a successful life and career. It matters! And at the same time I am so accepting of others thanks to my parents teaching me that too. I’m doing the same for my kids!!

My daughter colors really well for her age. And she used to come from school saying her friend scribbles. And we had a long talk that everyone is different and it’s ok that kids do things different than her. I feel this is engagement bait, mainly because "weird" isn't well defined at all. Like, can your kid be gay or trans or will you tell them that's "weird"? Can they like an alternative music or be especially passionate or interested in something unique like science, art, etc? The first video definitely left that open, and this one could definitely be read as saying "conform but don't be a bully because bullies are also weird." I think there's more nuance to this conversation than the very broad way you're talking about it, and I'm a bit concerned that's intentional.

What do you mean by weird besides clothing and hair? My daughter is nine years old. She still likes to play with Barbies. She does gymnastics and dance. She’s funny and she’s sweet. Is it weird that she plays with Barbies at her age or gets a little bit goofy with her friends? You need to explain exactly what you mean by weird please besides just hairstyles
