@briefbutspectacular: “It is not lost on me that the systems of white supremacy that forced, encouraged, my grandfather to pass as white are also the systems I now benefit from as a white-presenting person.” We’re resharing this Brief But Spectacular episode of Rebecca Hall, who explains how she dove into her family’s history after discovering that her mother’s biracial identity was being erased. In her journey, she discovered the book “Passing,” by Nella Larsen, written at the height of the Harlem Renaissance about the complexities of “white passing” in America. In 2021, Rebecca wrote and directed the film adaptation of the novel.
