Dune is great. But LOTR has heart. Heart wins.

It doesn’t have enough whimsy

Dune may be generational, but LOTR is legitimately timeless. It will never not be the best.

Not only that… the story/feel is different. Dune is cool/beautiful and unique. LOTR is all that plus emotional, quotable, and well rounded.

This is the first time I'm learning that there are people who think Dune is better than LOTR

Nothing will beat lord of the rings, been out for 20 years and still the best trilogy

Dune will NEVER touch LOTR. It’s not close.

Dune is cool, powerful… but Lotr is everything. Magical, whimsical, beautiful, funny, sad and full of heart. I don’t get those vibes from Dune. And it’s all… sand.

If Dune 3 sticks the landing, it beats LotR easy. That trilogy just doesn’t hold up.

you nailed why nothing will ever capture LOTR magic. It truly is in its own league, like beyond once in a lifetime

I agree nothing will ever beat the LOTR. But i still think Dune has the capability of being at least in the top 5 trilogies of all time.

Lord of the rings is the single greatest fictional story ever written. Above all, it’s a story of hope. As much as I love Dune and all it stands for, it’s a cautionary tale that lacks hope. They don’t belong in the same conversation.

Comparing Dune to LOTR is an insult to the latter.

Dune is what happens when Frodo becomes a warrior… which is weird.
