In the drawer that has the knife, the scissors, the post stamps, probably at least $6 in various coins, and a used bundle of rubber bands

When Boomers were growing up, they mostly had Nickel-Cadmium batteries. Those batteries benefited from being stored in cold temperatures which slowed the chemical reactions that occurred within them which preserved battery life by preventing as much self-discharge. This practice does not, however, benefit modern Alkaline batteries and can cause severe damage to the contacts through condensation upon being removed from the cold. DO NOT STORE YOUR BATTERIES IN THE FRIDGE.

The junk drawer. Batteries, twisty ties, scissors, taco bell sauce packets, loose screws, some change and whatever else just goes.

Yeah, I was raised that way. Then I learned how cold drains the battery and that's why the TV remote was dying every 2 days.

Fun fact: Batteries in the fridge actually DAMAGES the batteries and makes them less effective and also slightly discharges them!

Back in the mid 20 century when batteries used older chemistry, putting in cold slowed the reaction thus keeping the charge longer. This is no longer needed for newer chemistry
