I always just bury them a bit deeper and add epsom salt and bone meal to the hole. Every year the base of the plant is like 3/4-1 thick. And they get over 6 feet tall. I’ll just keep doing it my way.

I thought Kevin did an experiment planting tomatoes this way (at root ball level, one extra deep and one laying down) and the one laying down did the worst throughout the season?

That is actually kind of ridiculous because now you have a whole bunch of surface that you can’t plant into.

seeing alot of this on here. It makes no beneficial difference at all. it does take up more room though. Just grow them without getting leggy in the first place

I use ollas in my raised beds and plant my tomatoes like this so the bottom roots are near the ollas.

trenching works great if you’re not container gardening. They’ll be fine if you can’t do this. Right now in 10a sunshade is most important right now

I plant them deeper so that they have more access to water and are protected a bit from drying out
