The snacks put a calendar reminder a month before they expire in your phone. "Eat and replace Skittles - kids kit" Place those with your regular snack to eat and replace with new in kit. That way you won't feel bad for it going bad.

I was told backpacks because everyone can carry one. Also, I suddenly feel under prepared for everything! I saw someone mention a reusable cup for period, I'd add reusable pads or period underwear too. Cloth wipes.

May I suggest for the 72 hour kits to use a book bag, at least for the older kids. It’ll be much easier to carry and leaves the hands free
