the first one is because if we saw more child zombies, we's probably also see their deaths. and theirs kind of an unspoken rule not to kill children in shows and movies unless its hardcore. I think they just showed it in the first episode to let everyone know what they were getting into starting watching it. they do sometimes show child zombies but you notice it's very rarely.
