Last year I had an amazing social studies teacher. We did a whole week of just sharecropping stuff. Sad how this isn’t taught all around. Important stuff.

It doesn't, if you think about it, America is basically the only country that's still racist. I mean, it doesn't really make sense to me. Asians, they could, some, they were racist too. But it doesn't really make sense. For example, in Islamic countries, in the 1940s or even in the 1950s, they were not really racist against Africans. Think about Ethiopia. There were white Christians, pure-bred white Christians in Ethiopia back in the early 1800s. Muslims, Arabs, think about it. There was probably a black man worshipping the same God in Ethiopia next to a pure-bred European man. It doesn't really make sense. France and Britain were very bad at the time. But America doesn't really make sense. If you ask a racist, they're gonna say they're criminals. Yeah, no shit. Your so-called conman government basically fucked over them even before slavery. It feels like they're some kind of revenge on the slaves because they got free. You treated them bad and now you're getting revenge on them by using the crack epidemic and whatever. It just really makes sense. I don't know, but I feel like America is intentionally mentally stuck in the 1800s.

Just to add, this is also where american Tresspassing laws start as it was to force black folks out of harvesting and foraging from the land around them. This further forced familys to starve or go into sharecropping. 💛 Great series so far.

also adding on the jim crow laws and convict leasing that just put african americans back into slavery but with no limitations, slavery never truly and fully went away unless the federal government oversaw certain state governments

My grandma who was born in 1949 was born in a small town right outside of Clarksdale, MS. Instead of her going to school she picked cotton. She’s still very much alive today and still talks about it! This was not long ago!
