It’s treated nonchalantly by the majority of society because for people who aren’t addicts it isn’t a big deal BUT for people who are it’s often the jumping off point for full fledged alcoholism. I am so lucky that I’ve never had that issue but I come from a family of addicts. Watching them struggle is difficult to say the least, especially since I don’t really understand addiction since I don’t suffer from it. My grandma was an alcoholic in her younger years (she was addicted to beer & hasn’t had a drink in over 60 years). My dad was a meth addict, alcoholic & a sex addict for his entire adult life (he passed away this last November from an alcohol induced heart attack). My aunts, uncles & several cousins were or are all alcoholics, many have passed because of it. My half sister (dad’s side) was a meth addict for over a decade but has been clean for almost 5 years now. I am so proud of you for recognizing that you have an issue & conquering it!!! Too many people lose the battle……

I quit drinking wine because I couldn’t drink a glass without drinking the entire bottle.

Weed was my wine. I smoked almost everyday for almost 20 years. I just hit 3 years of no weed. God is good.

I feel you girl. I asked my dad to go get a beer with me last night and he was like “we both know I can’t just have 1 or 2 beers” so we didn’t go

Had to stop drinking wine a few years ago myself. I was getting way too comfortable having a glass or two every night. It became a routine. Alcohol should not be part of a routine.

Yesss I’m over 5 years sober. Now that my kids are older they told me how scary it was when I was drunk. And I was always a “fun drunk” so I thought I wasn’t causing trauma. But the unpredictability of a drunk person can still be traumatic. So excited for your sobriety and I’m so proud of you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Just my two cents; you don’t gotta shame people who do drink! Just because you couldn’t do it responsibly doesn’t mean everyone cant! it’s okay to have a drink and make jokes about it helping you be less stressed, because it does! Especially in parenthood when it feels like you never get a break. It’s up to the individual to recognize if it’s problematic and you don’t think you can responsibly continue! And I say this as an alcoholic who’s almost 2 years sober and recognized I couldn’t drink responsibly! lol much love though and awesome job getting sober !
