When you don't have that "safety net" feeling early on, you might feel like you have to be your own hero 24/7, which is an exhausting way to live.

My dad died when I was 6, would that have a similar emotional effect as abandonment?

Omg! Can we talk more about this?!?! I’ve explained it to others in so many ways so they can understand. But yes, growing up abandoned just means you have no backup. No one to go to when shit hits the fan. No group to build you up believing in you or who help you understand what’s happening. Not having that unwavering belief that your parents love you - you’re just so afraid all the time. I’ve only been able to achieve the other state a few times in my life. Where I’ve had a good enough peer group to kinda feel that support. It’s actually quite liberating. You’d think you’d need the group more you actually need them less because you carry them with you in your mind and you know they won’t go away or leave so should you ever need them, they’re not far away. I wish ppl understand anxiety and fear better. I hate that they really want anything to do with you or even trying to understand. I have to hide a lot of my fears and hiding just makes them worse.

I’m worried for all my kids because of my ex not being there and then being absent for over 6 years and he was just found decreased. I don’t want them to suffer because of it.

I am the abandoned daughter. Fear and anxiety was my baseline. It’s gotten somewhat better as I’ve aged but it’s generally always bubbling just beneath the surface.
