Definitively not about theft prevention, and more like planned obsolescence. They know the parts are only good for x amount of miles/km traveled and/or x amount of year, making you HAVE to come in to a ford shop for original parts. American company being extremely American.

Maybe a stupid question, but do you need the key that matches the ecu? From the scrap car or can you reprogram the ecu to work with existing key

wet belt will fail long before the ecu, Ford don't use bolts on the sump anymore, glue is fine(cheap), they say if you have to take the sump off its a write off 🤣
