Every Saturday, I make my kids do something we call "Notice and Do". I don't tell them what to do, I give them no guidelines. I just bring them into a random room, tell them to look around, find something that needs to be done and do it. I will help them with a task they have chosen if they are inexperienced or never done it before, like the time my son decided he wanted to clean the blades on our ceiling fan. And I make sure I let them know the tasks I will need to do after they are done so they are learning what kinds of things have to be done but I want them to have the practice of thinking themselves.
