Also they’re talking about income tax? The ultra rich don’t have “income”.

As a non-wealthy person, I would gladly pay more in personal taxes if it meant, I would benefit from things like universal healthcare or affordable housing. It’s an acceptable trade-off.

I'd like to see taxation as a % of income + assets. bet that changes the numbers drastically.

My old statistics professor drilled it into our heads that whenever you get someone citing a statistic, your first questions need to be: “Cite your source. Cite your methodology.”

Top 1% paying 40% seems like a lot, until you remember that their "real" tax rate is sometimes as low as single digit percent of their income

They don’t pay enough as evident by the fact that billionaires exist and they shouldn’t.

Income tax is also like, one component of wealth and taxation. The wealthiest ppl have ways to avoid getting taxable income.

Reports like these are always misleading and manipulative.
It conveniently leaves out sales tax, property tax, capital gains and asset growth. The more holistic look you take on taxes the more regressive US taxes look

I was talking to family about how due to tax loop holes Elon Musk paid a income tax of 3.5% over the last 15 years compared to the middle class's 20% and my conservative family just went, "yeah but his 3% is so much more money than our 20% so it's okay"

I have a BS is Econ. Final thesis had a requirement to find two papers / studies that had competing results for the study I was conducting. At first, that sounds impossible, but once started looking it ended up being the easiest requirement. PS, my econometrics thesis was on most impactful variables of states median income. What I found was it was state per capita spending on education.
