@dralexandravolo: New 2026 ACC/AHA cholesterol guidelines just came out — and the message is clear: Lower LDL earlier and more aggressively. Key updates include: • Earlier cholesterol screening • Universal testing of Lipoprotein(a) • Additional markers like ApoB • Lower LDL cholesterol targets for high-risk patients • More aggressive prevention of cardiovascular disease Statins remain the first-line therapy and I do support early treatment when appropriate. Personally, I tried three different statins and could not tolerate them, which is why I’m now on a PCSK9 inhibitor (Repatha). The good news is we now have more tools than ever to prevent heart attacks and strokes. Prevention is the future of medicine. #cholesterol #cardiology #lipidguidelines #lipoproteina #ldl

Gwen Korte :
I saw a lipid specialist last month, had all of the tests done you just mentioned because I’m also statin intolerant and determined I have the genetic mutation of the LDLR gene-FH. I’m a month in on Repatha and now my healthy teenage boys are Eligible for genetic testing for free so they can make informed decisions about their risks. So glad they updated the guidelines and I have great doctors advocating for my health and the health of my family!!

I lived off bologna as a kid and my mom kept asking the pediatrician to check my cholesterol . It’s actually good thank god but yeah early screening should absolutely happen!

My husband (cardiologist) told me the other day that kids need screening at least once - was news to me! Thanks for putting such important information out there! 👏
