I work with leather quite a lot, it sounds silly but roll it backwards as well, so like the clip is on the inside of the loop. helps break up the fibres on the top side of the leather and makes it a bit more supple. Hope it helps.

have you considered blasting it with a hairdryer? i have no clue what this belt is for but i do know that when a brand new pair of doc martens are uncomfy you blast them with a hairdryer and then wear them about with multiple pairs of socks on

I Wear mine as Tight as possible at home like 24/7 to break it in , laying down, standing up, walking around, sitting etc all day! Way tighter than at the gym. After a couple of weeks of doing this it gets softer.

if you add leather conditioner per the instructions it will definitely help loosen up the leather and prevent cracking
