I’m a parent and i actually agree with this. Unless it’s an emergency, time off for child-related events needs to be planned in advance like everyone else.

And remember you net less money too since you don’t get the tax credits people with kids do. You may even be compensated less if your employer covers any part of family health insurance. More work. Less pay.

How about we just normalize a flexible workplace for everyone. Shocking, but the real problem is everyone is working short handed because companies don’t want to pay the appropriate workforce. Easier is some lines of work than others of course.

I got to have a “conversation” with my manager for missing 3.5 days last year. When the people with kids are out once to twice a month taking care of their kids. The manager I had this convo with just took basically a week off to tend to sick children. All because I didn’t tell them ahead of time when I planned to be sick… I have a chronic illness. But I’m childfree so it’s expected I’m never sick

or the fact that even if you put in PTO for a holiday 8 months in advance, but the people with kids get Christmas off without PTO, and you have to come in anyways. Just because I don't have kids doesn't mean I don't deserve to spend the holidays with my family.
