your body is not a reflection of your choices alone. it's a result of your circumstances, your treatment, your access to healthcare and support resources.

I’ve been trying to lose weight and I’ve only lost 14 kgs right now and my confidence has already skyrocketed dropping a pant size and liking how I look in clothes has felt amazing

I watched this debate I found most of them didn’t actually debate the claim and got very off topic… it was a bit frustrating to watch for this reason.

As someone who believes in Body Positivity (IE the original meaning of loving yourself & your body thru all its trials & tribulations), that dietician is out of line. Weight loss is not unethical, especially when it comes from medical professionals who can see your charts & blood levels. Now if someone were to say, “if you don’t lose weight then you don’t have value as a person,” that’s different & the discussion would be different.

I totally agree with you. This is why I think the term “empathy” has become way overused to the point of misuse. People have increasingly based arguments on how a statement immediately makes one feel inside, rather than whether it makes logical sense and is backed by evidence.

I actually truly loved your take on this and I completely agree, as someone who was once 160,140,130 and I loved myself through every weight that I was at, I could still hold myself accountable that I was overweight and wanted and needed to do better for MYSELF. That does not mean I didn’t love myself at the time but I was knowledgeable enough to acknowledge the fact that I was unhealthy and wanted to treat my body better so I can feel better physically.

I have been on a wellness journey for like four years and I’ve lost 70 pounds. I don’t know where I would have been if I did not start my ball journey when I did.. I am happier, more confident, more active. I’m not lazy. I am all get up. I’m starting to get cute clothes that make me feel good and working out is not a chore or a burden I don’t grumble with the idea of going to the gym. I look forward to going and dancing. I go out more with my friends. And I’m at that stage in a wellness journey where I can actually look at chocolate and say yes I wanna have a piece or I want ice cream and I’m not gonna feel ashamed about it because I’m making little choices here in there.

What worked for me was shifting my focus to metabolic health, improving my blood sugar, cholesterol, and overall internal health. The weight loss happened as a byproduct, not the goal. I think we’ve got it backwards when we make weight the main focus. You can chase a number and still be unhealthy, or you can focus on what’s happening inside your body and let the rest follow. That mindset shift changed everything for me.

Love this. I’ve lost over 100lbs over a 3 year period - the more I have learned to loved myself (thanks to therapy) the better I have taken care of myself: lost more weight, exercised more, got healthier. I owe it to myself to take of and nourish my body

How is it even a debate who won... Julian was the only one talking facts and data. Everyone else was just sharing their stories and talking about emotions.

It does not have to be the most interesting but it is what keeps you moving, thinking, being creative, being funny, and being intelligent. Treat it well and you can be better. especially when you get older.

I used to have that it's everything else's fault I'm fat not my fault until it switched one day and I started actually looking after myself and it's humbling to realise it was solely my fault all along .

I am also at that stage in my wellness journey that I am fully comfortable about talking where I was weight wise, where I am now, what I’ve been doing, the struggles I faced and what has worked for me. Like I’m not ashamed to tell people I used to weigh 290 pounds and here I am 230. I was 276 June 1 of last year. And I’m not doing weight loss supplements.
